From the earliest days of civilization, people have sought ways to pay tribute to people in their lives, particularly those who are considered as cultural heroes. Artists capture their images in paint or clay, and they to musicians and song writers, the best possible way for them to show how deeply care about the contribution that (a) the person has made in the world, or even just for them personally, is to use the form of art they are most familiar with.
